Typical scenario

A suitcase handle jams only when the case is packed

If a new suitcase handle moves freely when empty but jams after packing, the parties may explain the problem differently. Preserving the guide positions, condition of the fastenings and transport history matters: a successful check of the empty case does not reproduce the owner's reported conditions.

What needs to be clarified

Establish when jamming occurs, examine the locking mechanism, and assess evidence of distorted guides, assembly problems or external forces affecting the shell and fastenings.

Materials to prepare

  • Suitcase with its handle, guides and all retained fastenings
  • Instructions stating load limits and carrying method
  • Video of jamming and photographs before carrier handover

What to compare

Record shell geometry, guide alignment, rivets and catches first. Then compare handle travel without a load and with an agreed distribution of contents within the instructions. Assess separately whether removing pressure from the shell changes the jam, and compare damage with the reported transport history.

Possible outcome of the analysis

The opinion can describe reproducibility, observed damage and technically supported explanations, identifying the additional information needed to distinguish alternatives that remain open after examination.

Limits of the conclusions

Without earlier photographs, dating distortion is difficult. Arbitrary overloading does not represent normal use. The technical examination alone does not determine whether warranty coverage applies.
